Hike up the rugged
terrains of the Chembra Peak located 2,100 metres above sea level on the
southern part of Wayanad. Chembra is the tallest peak in Wayanad and is an
ideal area for trekking. There is a heart shaped lake on the way to the top of
the peak, which is believed to have never dried up, is a major tourist
attraction here. With permission from the Forest Department, one-day treks and
two-day wildlife treks are possible. You can have group treks of up to ten
people or hike on your own, accompanied by a guide.
Located in the Chembra Hills of Wayanad’s Western Ghats, the
Chembra Lake is a heart shaped water body situated halfway up the hill.
Considered as a difficult activity, one can reach here within 2 hours of
trekking through the dense forests and grasslands.
Arrive
at the base camp near Chembra around 9am and start the
guided trek towards the lake at around mid-morning. Ascend through
rugged terrains, reach the lake by late morning. After reaching Chembra
lake, the trail will hit a ridge and rear up at a steep angle all the way
to the peak.
On
arrival at the peak, enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding and relish in
a packed lunch that can be arranged by us at an extra cost. Post lunch,
trek back to the base camp. The descent from the peak is slippery.
